As I was trying to come up with a topic for this blog, I started thinking about how long I’ve been a Soulie. I knew it was in the fall when I got the “call” (e-mail) saying Debbie liked “Riding for Love.” I was on my annual ‘camp by myself so I can get some writing done.’ It was September 17, 2012, and I was eating breakfast and reading my messages when, there it was—an email from Debbie, wanting to publish my book. Needless to say, breakfast didn’t get finished. I paced the camper, cried, walked up and down the road in the campground as I called everyone I knew, and—never got one more word written that day. (By the way, Steve Mitchell and I received our emails on the same day, so happy sixth anniversary, Steve.)
I keep all my book information in separate folders, so I started digging through my file cabinet and came across the “Riding for Love” one and found my very first contract. I signed in on September 27th, 2012, meaning I’ve been a Soul Mate author for six years and almost one month. And in case you might think it’ll never happen to you, or that you’re too old to get published, I had turned sixty that spring. Yes, it’s never too late. Never give up!
It’s been a wonderful journey with Debbie, Char, and Cheryl. I’ve learned so much about the writing world through edits, covers, blogs, promotion, etc., that I can’t even begin to mention it all. I know my writing has grown stronger, better, more interesting (I hope), and it’s all due to these three ladies. For that I’ll be forever thankful.
Riding for Love was a BTS Red Carpet Nominee. I won my first contest that made me an award-winning author with a Soul Mate Book. I was invited to be part of The Soul Mate Tree Collection. My book, “The Trail to Love,” took first place in the IDA OKRWA contest, and because of what I’ve learned over the years, I’ve received many awards for other books that I’ve self-published.
Having been signed by Soul Mate opened doors for me that I never thought possible. I’ve met so many wonderful, supportive authors and readers. I’ve been to conventions, book signings, and managed to come out of my shell to give talks to groups. I’ve become a stronger, more confident woman since that day in September of 2012, (I think I’m tearing up here.) and once again, I have Debbie, Char, and Cheryl to thank for that. I’ve been able to spend time with Char and Cheryl, and someday hope to meet Debbie in person.
I just checked my files again and see that I’ve writing on this blog for nearly six years, too. In these six years, I’ve had three full-length books published, been part of three anthologies with SMP, and hope to have many more.
So, happy anniversary to me and a belated happy seventh anniversary to Soul Mate Publishing. Thank you taking a chance with me. You guys rock!!
