Be Inspired

I had the absolute pleasure of seeing Ellen DeGeneres live last weekend in Toronto. It was an honest, open, and very entertaining conversation about the journey that has taken her to where she is now. She talked about the highs and lows, the struggles and triumphs. It was truly inspirational. Here are some of the things that resonated with me:

Have a dream, visualize it, and work toward it.

Face sadness and worry with humor. Try to find the humor in a difficult situation. It truly is the best medicine.

Everything happens for a reason and there is an interconnectedness that you shouldn’t mess with. There are forks in the road, perhaps in the form of people you meet or an event you choose to attend that can have a profound impact on your journey.

When faced with depression, she read books about being mindful and advocated exercising daily.

She doesn’t read reviews – good or bad. She said that if you can’t believe the bad ones, you shouldn’t believe the good ones, either. Do a job that makes you happy and fulfills you. Nurture that sense of pride and don’t worry about what people say.

Keep the sense of wonder and joy of childhood throughout your life.

Life is full of ups and downs. Ride the lows with the understanding that they, too, will pass.

Be kind to animals…and to humans.

Often we don’t realize we’re in a cage harboring shame, until we let it go. When we’re free of shame, we’re free to soar.

Ellen is an eloquent and entertaining speaker – if you’ve ever watched her talk show or her Netflix special, Relatable, you’ll know that, but it was even better to see her live. She gave anecdotes from her life, which wouldn’t have been easy to share, but that made them even more compelling to hear. It made you realize how passionate she is about helping people become better, happier human beings. She’s brilliant, wise, funny, and totally relatable. 😀

If you’d like a fun, quick read – here’s a sassy, sexy romantic comedy for you!

You never know where your words will take you…

When Mikaela Finn agreed to be Sam’s “fiancée” for a weekend, she probably should have told him that she’s a doctor. Sam O’Brien, aka “Dr. Eye Candy,” is trying to shed his playboy reputation and convince a small town hospital that he’s ready to settle down. But when his “fiancée” helps deliver a baby in the middle of the meet and greet, it’s a bit of a shock. If he’d known the whole truth, he might have done things a little differently because somehow his “fiancée” ends up stealing his job and his heart. Not exactly the change he wanted. Lies and deceit – it’s a match made in heaven!

I love Ellen! She’s from my hometown, and I loved listening to her brother when he played guitar.
