Here’s a secret about me – I prefer even numbers. It’s one of those crazy quirks in my personality that dictates that I prefer 2020 to 2019, as lovely as that year was. I like the symmetry of this year particularly. 2020 – or 20/20 – promises to be a spectacular year. The 20/20 reference wasn’t mine, as much as I wish I could claim responsibility for it.
At the last Los Angeles Romance Authors meeting of 2019, and the last one that I was President of that wonderful group, I was lucky enough to win a planner. For anyone who follows me on social media you will know that I am a pantser, not a plotter, but to my surprise this planner is coming in very handy. I always have a million things to do, whether it’s writing, editing, ads, social media or something else like audio, there is simply too much in my brain to remember it all. Now I can jot it down in this one place and refer back to all the things I have to do. It is a daunting list, sometimes, but it’s also quantified. I don’t have to worry about remembering it. Each one I accomplish I get to check off, which is so satisfying. While tasks, like mushrooms, keep growing, I now have a place where I can corral them.
It has many other uses too. It has check boxes for when I blog or post on social media. It has a daily word count. It has monthly tasks too, like giveaways, newsletter swaps, marketing and advertising. It is something I would never have bought for myself but now that I have it, I love it. I suspect I will be purchasing one next year.
One of the things that I am focusing on that I did not need the planner to remind me is my own final proofing of the third Universe Chronicles book before I send it to Soul Mate for their attention. This book follows our weather talent Zared, who was first seen in Shifting Auras, and the chrono talent that he rescues from a bad mission in Raleigh. But Raleigh, and Hannah, have more secrets than he, or Universe, accounted for. Their assignment takes them back to Raleigh, and begins to expose Whisper, the secret organization that has so far remained in the shadows. I am very excited about this book, and the new direction it will take the entire series.
So 2020—20/20—looks good so far, 1/12th of the way in. I hope that I will continue to use the planner, and continue to work on Universe Chronicles stories for Soul Mate and the Soul Mate fans. Thank you again for all of your wonderful comments over these last few years.
