April is tax season here in the US, which always gets me thinking about my debut novel, Taxing Courtship. I chose a tax collector hero because I wanted to explore the ways in which we can vilify people for doing important work for the larger good. The IRS has had a hard time with recruitment lately, which isn’t surprising, given its reputation! The tax system in my made-up world is pretty different from our modern labyrinth of paperwork, but some of the same principles still apply.
Quintin is a genuinely kind and honorable guy, which turns out to be important since his boss uses the power of his position in nefarious ways. I wanted to explore a little bit about how being in a reviled occupation affected his self image and how he interacted with the world. Quintin is also the kind of adorkable guy that I just love to see in romance, so the book will always have a special place in my heart.
So to celebrate Quintin, and make an unpleasant event a little more enjoyable, I’m hosting a giveaway ending on April 15th (traditional tax-day here in the US) Just head on over to Rafflecopter to enter to win a signed paperback copy of Taxing Courtship. I hope you enjoy reading about my geeky hero as much as I enjoyed writing him!
